We have an epidemic of substance use in our country that is relatively silent," says Miss America 2020, Camille Schrier. "Did you know that over 20 million Americans are struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders? Did you know that as a result of the stress, loneliness, and uncertainty caused by the pandemic, that the overdose rate rose by 20% in 2020?
"This tragedy isn’t only a serious public health issue, but also a serious workforce issue. Since the majority of us spend more than 50% of our waking hours dedicated to work, recovery responsive workplace programming is a real and viable solution to the growing epidemic of substance use.
"What if you, as an employee, could receive real support for your addiction from your workplace without fear of being stigmatized or retaliated against? What if employers had support to transform their workplace in a way that not only enhanced their employee’s overall health and well-being, but helped them to retain quality workers and improve their bottom line?
This is the mission of Recovery Business Association and by joining their free member program you can become an active part of the solution. You can also show your support by taking the RBA pledge. By doing so, you are standing for recovery responsive workplace programming for employees struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders," says Schrier.
