Urban Reign is an imaginative action/adventure-platform hybrid that combines heavy, intense gunplay with intense fighting and combat skills. There is no dodging or hiding in Urban Reign; you can and will get shot. To survive, you must blast your way past loads of enemies while unleashing a heaping helping of gunplay to see off the bad guys. Urban Reign plays like a theatrical, non-linear action movie and requires skills from different shooters you may not have used before, like stealth, shooting and fighting.
Urban Reign is more than a first-person action game, which we are all used to. Despite all the traditional shooting, the gameplay leans more toward ninja-esque action and the story's fast-paced story-telling is reminiscent of the blockbuster superhero movies of the same genre.
Urban Reign starts off as a drug-induced hazy dream. The taunted and adventurous Gary Haver drops his embattled co-worker Terry to the streets of his hometown, where he witnesses a mysterious man talking to a dog. Once back at the office, Gary offers to trade a part of his own body for bags of cocaine. Three days later, Terry gets a phone call from her estranged husband asking her to meet him at a bar. When she drives there, she finds the owner of the bar had choked to death at the bar's entrance followed by the cold and calculated return of Gary with a shotgun.
Urban Reign does a solid job of setting up a ton of neat little characters with varying narrative possibilities along the way. As time takes its toll, Gary discovers that he is different from others, making him the chosen one to fight the incoming evil. As Gary, you must use a range of abilities to fight off or trick out ninjas and goons, doing so to beat down hordes of henchmen, survive lengthy boss fights, and unravel the touchy-feeling story of Terry and her husband. d2c66b5586
