Below, I have very briefly described some of the things that each viewer does. I assume that you have basic knowledge of how the avatars are structured (world folder, avatar folder, skins, etc), and how the viewer works (including how to connect to an OpenSim server).

Some viewers are made for the new Avatars (displaying only the primary avatars), while others display both old and new avatars. If you are interested in using some of the older avatars, you have to import them into the viewer (more info about that in the article about importing avatars).

The dark and light conditions are calculated on the server based on the outside and inside lightness (walls, floor and ceiling). This means that the lighting cycles are only available in the viewer. (There is a simple way to tweak the original code, but I did not do it yet.)
